2007 - Barbara Gothard Ph. D. has joined our practice and will be helping our clients reach an elite cadre of sources and candidates in the educational, business, public relations and public affairs sector.  Barbara was most recently vice president and general manager of The Jackie Robinson Foundation. She is a gubernatorial appointed member of the Board of Trustees of the California Community Colleges.  She formerly served as senior counselor to Hill and Knowlton's Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Sustainable Development groups. Previously, Dr. Gothard was director of public affairs for the Middle East and African Region and later global leader of external affairs for The Dow Chemical Company.

New clients this year include the University of Southern California; Northeastern University; The American Jewish Committee; The Autry National Center; First 5 L.A. and Saint Joseph Ballet.

2006 - Shirley Associates has gained a substantial reputation as a firm with a successful track record of headhunting Executive Directors and CEOs for non-profits. This year has seen continued success at the highest levels with search assignments to find chief executives for such high profile organizations as CVE and the American Diabetes Association.

New clients this year include American Diabetes Association; KCET (public television); KPCC (public radio); Mills College; MALDEF; The Fullfillment Fund; National Kidney Foundation; Advance Energy; Children's Home Society; Community Vocational Enterprises.

2005 - New clients this year include The Wonder of Reading; Crossroads School; University of Texas; Heifer International; United States Artists Foundation, Roberts Enterprise Development Fund.

2004 - New clients in 2004 included The Weingart Center; The Special Olympics of Southern California; International Trachoma Initiative; Technoserve; FormFactor; The Old Globe Theatre.

2003 - Jennifer Arundale joined the firm as a partner and has established an Orange County presence for Shirley Associates. Jennifer has made a number of significant placements in Northern California, Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego. She has also lead national searches for major national nonprofits based in New York and D.C..

2002 - With a view to helping nonprofit employers who cannot afford to retain a nonprofit search firm, Shirley Associates launched DeepSweep, the leading non-profit jobs board in the country. Non-profits can post their jobs for free on DeepSweep.

2001 - In order to accomodate rapid growth, Shirley Associates moved its U.S. headquarter offices from Wilshire Boulevard to Larchmont Boulevard in Hancock Park, Los Angeles.

New clients in 2001 include the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Galef Institute, the Foundation for the Junior Blind and Junior Achievement.


1998 - Following four years with Rollo Associates, placing chief executives and senior executives for major local and national employers such as ARCO, House of Fabrics, Navistar, City National Bank, Transamerica, Martin Shirley opened the first U.S. office for Shirley Associates. The Firm has placed over 900 senior executives in 12 countries since it was founded by Roy Shirley in 1972. Shirley Associates is the only international executive search firm whose primary focus is on the nonprofit sector. In collaboration with our sister company-Execucare-we place over 50 non-profit executives in Europe and the U.S. each year.

Shirley Associates USA celebrated it's first placement: the Executive Director of Inner City Arts.
